Overview

This course is designed to give safety committee members an overview of important aspects of workplace health and safety. It also provides guidance on how groups can function more effectively and on ways for committees to achieve better outcomes. 

Who should attend?

All members of Workplace Health and Safety Committees. 

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Explain the role and function of safety committees

  • Understand the purpose of Workplace Health & Safety Legislation and have a broad knowledge of it’s content

  • Recognise workplace hazards and understand how those hazards can be controlled

  • Conduct risk assessment and select cost effective controls

  • Understand the cause of workplace accidents/incidents

  • Investigate accidents/incidents which occur at their workplace, and recommend corrective action

  • Establish a safety committee and understand what is required for a committee to function satisfactorily.

Training methods

This course is theory based, however it is supported by case studies and group work that help participants in the learning process. 

Award

Participants who successfully complete the course by demonstrating competency during individual and group activities will receive an NSCA “Statement of Attendance”.
