Manage Health and Safety Construction Workplaces 30596QLD Elective

Overview

This course provides the participant, who has successfully completed the core module Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer, the necessary skills to operate in the role of Workplace Health and Safety Officer in a construction workplace.

Who should attend?

Those who have attended Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer – Core Modules, and wish to be a Safety Officer in the Construction industry, where the Principal Contractor (PC) has 30 or more workers at a workplace during any 24 hour period, or if the PC has built more than 30 domestic premises during the previous year. This course is also suitable for supervisors and managers who have a responsibility for the safety of workers.

 

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Identify and prioritise construction hazards.

  • Complete an inspection report in accordance with best practice.

  • Advise on the implementation of control measures at the construction workplace.

  • Establish and review educational programs specific to the construction industry in accordance with statutory requirements and best practise.

Training methods

This course has both theoretical and practical components, and is conducted in accordance with criteria set by the Division of Workplace Health and Safety. Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer - CORE MODULES must be successfully completed before a participant can progress to Manage Health and Safety in Construction Workplaces.

 

Award

Participants who demonstrate competency by achieving a 75% pass mark, or more, for a theory examination and in class assessment tasks will receive a Division of Training and Industrial Relations Assessment Report. This Assessment Report is then sent with the Assessment Report from Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer – CORE MODULES, to obtain the certification of a Workplace Health and Safety Officer (Construction workplaces), from the Division of WHS.

 

Time restrictions

Manage Health and Safety in Construction Workplaces must be completed within 6 months of completing Functioning as a Workplace Health & Safety Officer – CORE MODULES, in order to gain their Workplace Health and Safety Officer (Construction workplaces) certification.
