Overview

This course is specifically designed as a common learning forum for Managers, Supervisors and Health & Safety Representatives covered under Section 67(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004. The course equips you with the skills for effectively dealing with occupational health & safety issues in your workplace.

  • HSRs – you will gain knowledge and skills that will enable you to effectively represent the members of a designated work group.
  • Managers & Supervisors – you will better understand your workplace responsibilities and be able to manage health and safety in the workplace.

 

Who should attend?

Health & Safety Representatives, Managers, Supervisors and interested employees.

Note: This course is suitable for workplaces covered by the Victorian OHS Act 2004. Commonwealth employees should enrol under an approved Commonwealth course.
 

Learning outcomes

The training course will supply basic information and skills required for HSRs to successfully exercise their powers under the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act 2004 and Victorian OHS Regulations 2007. The course will also provide HSRs with:

  • A understanding of the objectives of the OHS Act 2004 and their role under the Act

  • Knowledge of their powers under the OHS legislation and how to exercise these powers

  • Skills in representing members of their designated work group including consulting, issue resolution and negotiating with their employer

  • Knowledge of where and how to obtain assistance in dealing with hazards and dangerous situations

  • A understanding of the role of occupational health and safety in the workplace in the prevention of incidents, injury and illness.
