Safety Climate Survey

The Safety Climate Survey identifies inconsistent perceptions between management, supervisors and staff on safety management issues. The survey is also useful for identifying more specific aspects of the safety program that require improvement, thereby enabling a more directed allocation of resources to priority activities.

Survey respondents are required to complete an anonymous electronic* questionnaire featuring 87 questions across 8 distinct elements:

  • Practices and Procedures

  • Communication of safety issues

  • Importance of safety training and performance appraisal

  • Management attitude towards safety

  • Safety of equipment and facilities

  • Actions of management in response to safety issues

  • Understanding of safety policies and procedures

  • Extent of participation in range of safety activities.

Completed surveys are submitted to the NSCA for analysis and preparation of a detailed report identifying key findings and trends. If the process is being carried out prior to a program of training or system implementation, a follow-up survey should be undertaken to help evaluate its success and effectiveness.

* Paper versions of the survey tool may be utilised if required.
