To create a safe workplace, employers need to identify hazards and assess the risks. The NSCA invites you to hear Michael Groom, the first Australian to climb the world's five highest mountains. Michael has faced many life threatening risks pursing his dream. During his presentation, he will provide insight on how he assesses risks on climbs and manages these risks to achieve his goals.
Mr Michael Groom

Michael Groom is unquestionably one of the world's greatest big mountain climbers. In 1999 he sucessfully climbed Makalu, the smallest and for Michael, the last of the "big five" - the five highest mountains in the world. Makalu, Lhotse, Kangchenjunga, K2 and Everest - Michael climbed them all without the assistance of bottled oxygen.
Michael has been close to tragedy many times, including the disastrous 1996 Everest attempt in which many climbers died. Michael was a guide on Rob Hall's Everest team and of the six team mates who reached the summit, only he and one other survived. With some many risks faced, only sheer will got him through.
